Job Title
Accounts & Reconciliations Officer (Bookkeeping)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Accounts & Reconciliations Officer to support the finance function with day-to-day
bookkeeping and reconciliations. This is a hands-on role requiring strong practical experience and confidence
working with Xero on live accounts. Exposure to UK payroll or umbrella payroll environments would be
advantageous but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Reconciliations & Controls
• Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations in Xero
• Maintain and reconcile debtors / accounts receivable
• Match receipts to invoices and investigate discrepancies
• Reconcile balance sheet control accounts (e.g. suspense, clearing, tax-related accounts)
• Support intercompany reconciliations where required
Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing
• Post, review, and maintain transactions within Xero Accounts
• Ensure accurate coding of income, costs, and balance sheet items
• Maintain clear audit trails and supporting documentation
• Assist with month-end close processes
Payroll Support (Desirable)
• Support reconciliation of payroll-related transactions where required
• Assist with payroll control accounts and payment matching
• Exposure to UK umbrella payroll processes (PAYE, National Insurance, RTI, statutory deductions) is beneficial
Reporting & Finance Support
• Maintain aged debtor schedules
• Support preparation of management information
• Liaise with internal teams to resolve finance queries
• Assist with continuous improvement of bookkeeping and reconciliation processes
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance operations role
• Strong, hands-on experience using Xero (daily use, not exposure only)
• Proven experience with bank reconciliations, debtor reconciliations, and balance sheet control accounts
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• Comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment
Desirable
• Exposure to UK payroll or umbrella payroll environments
• Understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, and payroll control accounts
• Experience working across multiple entities
• Strong Excel skills (reconciliations, data checking, lookups)
• Background in professional services or payroll-led businesses
